What is one great way to get young people to dream about their future in the workforce, packed with innovative technology? Take them to an interactive careers expo! And that’s exactly what Cecil Andrews College (Perth) recently did: the P-TECH Australia Careers Open Day was the perfect place to get students to start thinking about which career pathways excites them, and begin planning for what is to come after school.
At the expo, 450 students from years nine to 12 had the golden opportunity to hear from representatives coming from a variety of industries and organisations- including building and construction, watchmaking, mining, marine, defence force, IT, universities and TAFEs.
All of P-TECH Australia partners attended the expo, and gave the students a short presentation about their industry and the services and products they provide; and even more interestingly for the kids, they highlighted what jobs and careers are available within their respective industries.
Vocational education and training coordinator Steven Dimech said: “Students witnessed some great pieces of technology which they didn’t know existed and were awe-struck about some of the opportunities that are available in the world of work from some of the biggest names in their respective industries.” Mr Dimech invited students’ parents to attend next year’s career expo to support their children reaching their potential in the workforce in the years to come.
