On Thursday 24th of October, students from Burnie High School, Parklands High School, Yolla District High School and Hellyer College attended the ‘Milking the Future Expo’. The expo was designed to raise awareness of students and teachers about the emerging career opportunities in dairy and agriculture.
Made possible thanks to the partnership between P-TECH Australia, DairyTas, the Beacon Foundation, the Department of Education and BIG Burnie, students were offered a range of hands on activities, as well as a showcase of the latest advancements in STEM in the dairy and agriculture sectors.
18 exhibitors were involved from the Ag Science, Dairy production, food production, AgTech (Taz Drone solutions) Higher Educationa (UTAS, TasTAFE) and Ag business sectors. This also included P-TECH Australia partners TasFoods and DairyTas.
The event was a great success: around 700 Primary and High School students from across the North-West of Tasmania were in attendance throughout the day.
P-TECH Australia students learned from this experience what career pathways were available to them, and this experience reinforced their determination to pursue STEM studies.
