In May of 2019, the Northern Brisbane P-TECH Australia Partnership was formed to address educational and skill shortages in the areas of data and digital analytics. Aviation High School joined forces with industry partners Airbus, PricewaterhouseCoopers and Brisbane Airport Corporation to build the fundamental skills necessary for young people to analyse data and to identify emerging trends and patterns to aid problem-solving.
The skill sets being taught and experienced around the P-TECH Australia Program will place Aviation High students in a very strong position to seek employment with industry partners and other firms like them in positions such as data scientist, data analyst, risk management specialist and project manager.
Through enthusiastic collaboration between Aviation High School core staff, Tertiary and Industry Partners, a course has been designed where the P-TECH Technology subject “DATA” will focus on the abilities required to fulfil the role of a digital analyst.

The subject will encompass the skills of coding, digital analytics, artificial intelligence, project management, communication, presentation and team building.
Already a cohort of 23 students have selected the P-TECH subject “DATA” to completed as part of their Year 10 studies for 2020.
This Years 8 and 9 students will be participating in excursions to industry sites in November, as well as working collaboratively in teams in a P-TECH Challenge Day in December.
The support of our industry partners has been overwhelming. This has been demonstrated through their participation in Information Evenings, welcoming Aviation High School staff and students to their sites for orientation visits, as well as their invaluable contribution to the creation and formulation of the Years 9 and 10 subjects for 2020.
