Jack first heard about the P-TECH Australia program back in 2016, when he was a Year 9 student at Newcomb Secondary College. After learning about what streams of study would become available in 2017, Jack participated in a series of industry visits to our P-TECH Australia partner organisations, and researched the industries he visited. He was also involved in an ice breaker session with mentors, to learn more about the program and the bank industry.
In 2017, Jack started simultaneously with his studies in Year 10 a Certificate III in Business at the Gordon TAFE. Every Wednesdays, Jack spent the afternoon studying for his Certificate; and every alternate Monday afternoons he would meet with his mentors at Bendigo Bank.
His hard work payed off! Jack was offered a school-based apprenticeship in Business (SBaT) at Bendigo Bank in 2018, alongside with his Year 11 studies- providing him with the amazing opportunity to learn the ropes while being on the job.
What about today? Since March, Jack is now a proud owner of a Certificate III in Business. He has experienced valuable on-the-job training, participated in many staff training sessions and is gaining the important soft skills for work such as communication, critical thinking and time management skills. He is currently completing his Year 12, and is now a part-time employee as a Bendigo Bank Trainee Teller. Jack also enjoys a brilliant relationship with his mentor, Senior Branch Manager Chris Barker, who he calls “CB”.
Jack is one of the first P-TECH Australia students to complete the SBaT course and being employed as a result: what an inspiring example for all P-TECH Australia students!
